We are big believers in player choice, so we would like you to have options on how to play League of Legends. We have heard a lot of suggestions on what options players wanted to see, and have balanced those with what we can technically accomplish by the end of the launch celebration. We would like to present the different ways to enjoy League of Legends . Skip to the attached chart below if you don't like reading (especially if you are familiar with League of Legends).

With Any Option: All of the below options have access to the 10 rotating free champions (explained here). All players will still have the ability to permanently unlock Champions one at a time by playing games and using Influence Points (here's some info on what players could be able to afford at launch). Players using any option can also use Riot Points to permanently unlock Champions whenever they choose. Runes and additional maps are also going to be unlocked for free with Influence Points for all our players.

Free: We expect the most popular option will be for most players to play the game for free. We've made it fun to play without spending any money, and all the champions can be unlocked permanently without spending any money. Just playing games earns you Influence Points, which can then be used to unlock Champions.

Collector's Pack:
As you know we've offered a Collector's Pack, which comes with 20 Champions unlocked right away, and a lot of other valuable content (4 runes, $10 in Riot Points and an exclusive skin) (here's which Champions are in this bundle). The Collector's Pack is available on the web.

Champion's Bundle:
For those who would like to have all 40 initial Champions available to them on the first day the store opens, there is a compliment to the Collector's Pack with the other 20 Champions included. It will typically be available in the store for $30 worth of Riot Points, but right now we're discounting it to $25. If you have bought the Collector's Pack, you'll already have $10 of Riot Points (so the total price of both the Collector's Pack and the Champions Bundle will be $44.99 for a limited time). You will have all 40 launch Champions available immediately, but as we roll out new Champions, they will have to be unlocked.

We have tried to offer a lot of options to our players. However, all options were not designed to appeal to every player. There will probably be options that make more sense for you than others – please feel free to use the option that works best for you, but we will keep other options open for other types of players.

Very interesting.

Personally I will be going the free route, with occasional purchases of Riot Points to quickly update new Rune Builds.

The All 40 Champs Unlocked option sounds intriguing. Your post is a bit vague, however, on how one actually buys this option. Could you explain it in a bit more detail? I don't like the idea of spending $20 for only half the champions, but being able to buy them all in one go might be worth it.

There doesn't seem to be much of a value increase between option 2 and 3. IMO. Maybe if there were some runes included or something.

Champion's bundle sounds neat, but not going to drop 25$ for 20 champions that I can easily unlock in game. It's a good choice for all the people who want everything now though!

That's some sneaky PR work there pitching the $10 worth of RP being spent on the Champions Bundle.

Basically you have an overpriced set of champions based on what you get with the Collector's Edition and it makes the game $60+, which is way too expensive IMO.

Not really overpriced. ~1$ per champion is pretty good, IMO.

If you pay a total of 45 USD you will get all of the champions.

It is more than that. For $30 you get 20 champions, 4 runes, 1 skin and $10 RP.

For $25 you get 20 champions.

I didn't mean grossly overpriced, but it is significantly a far worse deal than the CE.


What is confusing though, is that they're obviously taking into account the $10 worth of RP. This means the pack will be priced in RP, which supposedly you get more of when you spend more. So doesn't that mean the pack could cost less?

The thing is only a few people are actually gonna buy both the collecteor's edition + champ pack most people dont play every single champion nor need to really it's only the impatient lot who are gonna buy both.

Personally already got collector's pack and only need get Nunu the rest i'll spend on runes.
