TL;DW: Classic, Mayhem & More Dev Update

A short rundown of changes from today’s Dev Update.

Hey everyone, Pabro and Meddler here with a quick TL;DW of today’s Dev Update:

  • Season 3 is all about celebrating League’s past and present.
  • League Classic launches next patch and is our take on creating a “greatest hits” feel from across League’s early years.
  • Classic will feature the original Summoner’s Rift, a starting roster of 60 champions, old-school items, runes, masteries, and mechanics.
  • We’ll be adding additional champions over time, but Classic won’t include every champion released up to the present day.
  • You’ll unlock Runes and Masteries by playing Classic, though progression will be much faster than it was in the past and everyone will have access to default pages from the start.
  • Classic will also include modern improvements like matchmaking updates, server infrastructure, performance improvements, modern pings, spell buffering, and optional WASD controls.
  • We’ll be doing regular balance updates, but Classic will have its own balance philosophy focused on preserving what makes it unique.
  • We’re also introducing The Council, a community voting system that will help guide the future of Classic.
  • You can learn more about Classic in a dev blog out now.

  • We’re celebrating Classic in ARAM: Mayhem with ARAM: Mayhem Classic-ish.
  • ARAM: Mayhem Classic-ish will feature a Classic-inspired map, Classic items, and Classic-themed Augments.
  • Only the 60 champions available in Classic will be playable, though they’ll use their modern versions.
  • ARAM: Mayhem Classic-ish will launch alongside League Classic as a limited-time mode with its own queue.
  • Applications for the League Partner Program reopen in September. Keep an eye on our social channels for more information when applications go live.
  • We’ll be revealing the next Hall of Legends inductee on August 17, with the accompanying in-game event launching shortly afterward.
  • We’ll share more about Season 3 Act 2 before it begins, and at Worlds we’ll give a little peek into some future plans for 2027 and beyond.
